PH bans OFW deployment to Kuwait

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has imposed a ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers in Kuwait.

The order was issued on January 19 by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III following President Rodrigo Duterte’s speech at the opening of the OFW Bank, citing the death of four migrant workers in Kuwait.

“I do not want a quarrel with Kuwait. I respect their leaders but they have to do something about this because many of the women commit suicide. They claim abuse, sexual, and they endure,” Pres. Duterte said during the launching of the OFW bank

“We talk to them, state the truth and just tell them that it’s not acceptable anymore,” he added.

A Filipino migrant worker Jakatia Pawa was executed in Kuwait last year after allegedly killing her employer’s daughter.
