OWWA rescues OFW who was beaten, starved by her employer in Kuwait

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has rescued another abused overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Kuwait.

According to JP Soriano’s report on GMA, the unnamed OFW, who worked as a domestic helper in Kuwait, was rescued after her aunt, Jane Continente, reached out to OWWA.

“Namaga ‘yung mata niya tapos nung nalaman na nagkokontak [siya] sa magulang, binabatukan at tsaka sinusuntok na sa katawan, tapos hindi nga sila pinapakain. Isang beses lang sa isang araw. Tapos pina-padlock sila sa bahay,” Continente said.

She also said that her aunt started working as an OFW on March last year.

“Mag-trabaho ka na ibinigay mo ‘yung buong puso mo yung pagtatrabaho mo, tapos makaranas ka pa ng pang-mamaltrato, parang pinaka-mahirap yata na maranasan mo yun,” she said.

After tracing her niece’s whereabouts, OWWA immediately took her away from her male employer who allegedly abuses and starves her.

According to the OFW, her employer’s wife has also experienced the same maltreatment.

Just a week ago, Victoria Perdagorda, another OFW from Kuwait, was also rescued by OWWA after she was maltreated by her employer.

Perdagorda returned to the Philippines earlier this year after her female employer physically and verbally abused her.

She went home with wounds, scars, bruises, a swollen ear, and a broken jaw.
