LTFRB reduces Grab, Uber units to 45,000 in Metro Manila

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reduced the number of Transport Network Vehicles Service (TNVS) including Grab and Uber in Metro Manila.

Based on Memorandum Circular No. 2018-03 released by the board last Thursday, January 18, from 125,000 TNVS units passing in Metro Manila, it will be reduced to 45,000 starting February 3.

Aside from the Metro, TNVS in Cebu will also be capped to 500 units, and 200 in Pampanga.

While these regulation may bring unsettlement and disagreement from many Grab and Uber users, LTFRB said that 45 to 50 percent of these units have been switching between Grab and Uber.

Meanwhile, the memorandum also stated that “vehicles not more than three years old from the date of manufacture shall be accepted,” with a maximum limit of seven years.
