Body cameras, pocketless suit for NAIA employees to curb pilferage

All employees assigned to handle baggage transportation will now be equipped with body cameras, pocketless suit, and will be prohibited to wear jewelry and use mobile phones during their duty to avoid baggage pilferage at the tarmac of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, said Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

The personnel inside the tarmac will also be inspected before they are permitted to enter and exit the aircraft to the buildup station, reported The Philippine Star.

The MIAA has also deployed new members of Airport Police Department intelligence office as they intensify surveillance on employees.

“I am appealing to everyone and to all service providers/employees, to do what is right and not embarrass the country,” MIAA general manager Ed Monreal said.

Monreal also noted it is about time to make the airport free from pilferage.

MIAA’s action is in line with the recent luggage pilferage of an OFW returnee from Canada whose balikbayan boxes were allegedly emptied inside the Clark International Airport by the employees of MIASCOR Aviation, a group handling firm.
