48 Filipino victims of human trafficking return home

On Friday, January 19, 2018, forty-eight overseas Filipinos who bacame victims of human trafficking arrived in the Philippines from Abu Dhabi.

The OFWs, who only had visit visas, were promised to land a decent job in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but were actually employed as domestic helpers, reported UNTV News & Rescue.

Through the help of the Philippine government’s repatriation program, the OFWs’ documents were processed.

Philippine Ambassador to UAE Constancio Vingno Jr. said they were doing their best to take all necessary measures to help and repatriate human trafficking victims to the country on a weekly basis.

“We can only accommodate so much here, and it’s not a healthy environment if at any more time we had 200 people here. We have so little space that’s why we are trying our best repatriate on a weekly basis,” Ambassador Vingno said.
