UAE-Saudi highway gets major facelift

The major highway connecting Saudi Arabia to the United Arab Emirates has recently been completed and got a major upgrade that’s expected to decrease traffic congestion on the road.

The Mafraq-Ghuweifat Highway has been installed with LED lamps to help driver’s road visibility, especially during unstable weather conditions like the spreading of thick fogs and mists, reported Gulf News.

From two-lane carriageways, the highway has now three lanes starting from Barakah to Ghuweifat and four lanes from Mafraq to Baynounah Forests. Each lane can accommodate up to 2,500 vehicles per hour.

Authorities also elevated the asphalt level of the road as well as its drainage system to prevent flood. Motorists do not have to worry about their gasoline because two gasoline stations were set up in Barakah and Mirfa.

Also, underpasses near Al Silaa and Ghuweifat were built to ensure the safety of commuters and farmers who use camels as means of transportation.

The Dh5.3 billion project aims to improve the traffic system in the main passage between Saudi Arabia to the UAE and vice versa.
