‘Wish ko for Christmas? to travel dun sa may snow, kasama family ko’

Tour companies are busiest during the months of October to way till March, understandably because of the peak season when tourists enjoy the desert winter and engage in a range of activities, among them, desert safaris.

Ariena Maranan, not her real name, works in one of these companies and thus could not go home anytime during the yuletide to see her family. “Magta-tatlong taon na akong walang uwian,” she said.

Nonetheless, she has not given up hope and is praying to be together with her loved ones this Christmas. “I want to be with them and travel dun sa may snow na kasama sila,” she said.

Indeed, seeing and playing in the snow have undoubtedly tickled every Filipino’s imagination since childhood, the Philippines being a tropical country that has lots of sun and rain by never a snow.

Maranan is not alone. Owing to reasonable fares, more and more Filipinos have been holidaying in the Eastern European countries of Armenia and Georgia; in fact, Armenia has recently been a destination of choice for Pinoy visa runners.
