Police arrested alleged IS recruiter in Taguig City

Police arrested on Oct. 11 an alleged Islamic State (IS) recruiter involved in the Marawi rebellion, the Department of Justice revealed.

Karen Aizha Hamidon, 36, a Taguig City resident, was charged with “inciting to rebellion” after police found 296 social media posts on her cellphone recruiting Indians to join IS and other radical groups in Mindanao.

Under Article 138 of the Revised Penal Code, people who incite armed rebellion against the government may be imprisoned up to six years.

She is also the alleged wife of Ansar Khalifa Philippines’ (AKP) leader Mohammad Jaafar Maguid.

AKP “worked with the Maute Group on the Davao market bombing” in September 2016, Indonesian thinktank Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict said.
