Man convicted of traveling to PH to rape, film abuse of Filipino minors

A federal jury on Monday, October 16, found American David Paul Lynch guilty of producing child pornography and traveling to the Philippines with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with Filipino minors.

Lynch, 56, was convicted of eight counts of producing and attempting to produce child pornography, two counts of traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, one count of receiving child pornography, and one count of possessing child pornography.

According to his testimony at the trial, Lynch regularly traveled to the Philippines between 2005 to 2006 to have sex with with underage children and to make recordings of the abuse.

Prior to his trips, he communicated with locals online to find Filipino children to sexually exploit.

Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also located “dozens of self-produced images and videos of child pornography from his trips” at his home in Venice, Florida.

Lynch produced child pornography of at least three Filipino children on these visits and also solicited child pornography through e-mail.

Lynch was arrested in San Francisco on December 2016 while attempting to board a flight to the Philippines.

His sentencing is scheduled on January 2018.

He faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years, up to 30 years, in federal prison for each production count, up to 30 years’ imprisonment for each travel count, a mandatory minimum penalty of five years, up to 20 years, for receiving child pornography, and up to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography.
