Kin suspects foul play, not suicide, caused OFW’s death in Saudi

The sister of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia claimed that the OFW’s cause of death may have been wrongly pronounced.

Mary Che Salili suspected that her sister Mary Cris Serato, 27, a domestic helper, may have died not because of suicide but because of foul play by her employers.

Based on their last online chat, Salili said Serato feared for her life because her employer’s son, Yousef Sulaiman Abdulaziz Alhawas, allegedly attempted to molest her.

She added that Serato had planned to leave Saudi Arabia on Oct. 1.

However, Serato’s recruiter, Techsearch International Corporation, earlier said the OFW committed suicide on Oct. 1.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is now working with Serato’s family in investigating the matter.

The OFW’s remains are set to return to the Philippines by November.
