Duterte says he wants to resign before term ends

President Rodrigo Duterte said on Tuesday, Oct. 17, he wants to resign if possible because of his workload.

He added that desire for power had nothing to do with his plans of setting up a revolutionary government, which he announced on Friday, Oct. 13.

“Iyong sinasabi nila na mag-revolutionary government ako dahil gusto ko tumagal [sa pwesto], anak ng, kung maari lang pwede umatras, nakakahiya lang. If you ask me if I’m happy, I’m not, because of the sheer volume of work,” Duterte said.

The president’s warning of declaring a revolutionary government recently took a hit, with Akbayan Representative Tom Villarin comparing it with former president Ferdinand Marcos’ Martial Law rule in the 1970s.

Duterte said the revolutionary government was needed to quell the destabilization of the government, which involved the communist party, the elite and the US Central Intelligence Agency.

“If your destabilization seems to prosper and it becomes chaotic, I will not hesitate to declare a revolutionary government until the end of my term,” SunStar quoted him as saying.
