LTFRB proposes higher taxi fares to be at par with Uber rates

Many taxi drivers are unhappy with the current trend of ride-hailing companies in the Philippines and it has to do with not only passengers’ preference for Uber and Grab, but also the difference in their ride pricing.

To bring taxi companies out of this disadvantage, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has proposed to increase taxi fares, making them at par with Uber rates.

“Ang gagawin, we will try to make it at par with TNVS (transport network vehicle services) or more particularly with the Uber system kasi nade-dehado daw mga taxi drivers ngayon,” GMA News quoted LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III as saying on Wednesday, September 13.

Uber drivers benefit from the ride-hailing company’s surge pricing, where normal fares are increased during periods of excessive demand or a number of other factors like traffic and weather.

“We have already agreed unanimously, we are going to do it on a running time rate so aside from the distance travelled, meron na ring papasok on the time travel,” Delgra added.
