Last year, PhilRice Nueva Ecija created faces of Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo as well as Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza known as “AlDub”.

Rice Up Pilipinas is “a creative way to call for unity among Filipinos to become partners for change in rice farming,” said PhilRice Deputy Executive Director for Administration Roger F. Barroga said in their website.

Developers said they used the Korean variety of purple rice with dark purple leaves in contrast with the regular green-leafed inbred variety to show the images. (Source: PhilRice/ Photo credit: Noriel Padiernos/ABS-CBN News, Benjamin Sotto/Facebook)

Pinoy artist reimagines Disney princesses in traditional Filipino clothing

A Filipino artist celebrates Philippine culture and traditions in an interesting way – by imagining what it would be like if Disney princesses were Filipino women.

Edward Niebert III, 23, posted a series of photos on his Facebook page on Wednesday, August 27 called “Las Islas Filipinas”, showcasing Disney princesses wearing outfits of different ethnolinguistic groups in the country.

According to Niebert, he found Disney princesses interesting since he was a kid not only because of the values they teach children but also because they possess “truly Pinoy” qualities.

“I think the qualities of these Disney Princesses as a whole is what makes it truly Pinoy,” he said. “I simply clothed them, but what makes them truly Filipino is how relevant the lessons they teach us today, towards becoming better individuals,” ABS-CBN News quoted Niebert as saying.

Here are some of his artworks:
