2 dead as 5.1 magnitude earthquake hits Leyte

Phivolcs has warned residents of Ormoc City and Albuera town of possible aftershocks that could damage weak structures near the quake’s epicenter.

Yesterday, August 23, two women died after a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck parts of Leyte.

Maria Contreras Colasito, 51, died after she fell and banged her head, while Rosita Baloro, 70 suffered a heart attack when the earthquake struck.

Around 56 houses in Brgy Altavista were damaged by the Intensity V quake.

The quake’s epicenter was located just northeast of Albuera, Leyte, with a depth of focus at just 5 kilometers below ground,” the Phivolcs announced.

Intensity IV in Pastrana town; and Intensity III in Palo and Tacloban City, the agency added.
