A province in Canada has temporarily closed its doors for Filipino workers who are looking to try their luck as temporary foreign workers.
The province of Alberta issued a two-year ban for temporary foreign workers, including overseas Filipino workers, in 29 high-skilled job categories due to sufficient number of qualified local workers.
“Alberta’s Employer Liaison Service provides enhanced recruitment support to companies looking for high-skilled workers to hire Alberta citizens rather than foreign workers,” a statement from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) reads.
The service, however, will not terminate contracts that have been issued prior to the program implementation on April 19.
