Sharjah installs aerial traffic monitoring system

Sharjah Police rolled out a new traffic system that will monitor traffic conditions even without the presence of uniformed officers on the roads.

The Department of Traffic and Patrols of Sharjah Police collaborated with Sharjah Air Wing to deploy technologies that will identify traffic violators from the sky.

Major Abdurrahman Khater, director of traffic awareness department at Sharjah Police, said the technology will maintain road safety in the emirate by reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing traffic situation, especially in peak hours.

“Police seek to enhance road safety and reduce the number of road fatalities by upgrading the traffic system and achieve objectives earmarked in the strategy of the Ministry of Interior,” he said.

The system will be beneficial to the public because it could help locate congestion points that impede traffic flow.

The aerial surveillance system will patrol major roads in Sharjah, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Mleiha Road, Al Ittihad Street, and Emirates Road and Al Dhaid Street.
