Dubai police records 1,279 fines under new Federal traffic rules

The new federal traffic law with stiff fines and penalties which took effect on Saturday, July 1, resulted in 1,279 traffic violations in Dubai, according to authorities.

The traffic violation with the most number of fines was blocking traffic flow, recording 208 violations. This traffic rule penalizes offenders with a Dh1,000 fine.

The Dubai police also issued 125 fines for lane discipline and 98 fines for illegal parking, said Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Traffic Department in Dubai Police.

Under the new traffic law, three motorists were fined for not wearing seatbelts who each fined Dh400 plus four traffic points.

The same Dh400 fine is applicable to guardians of children under 10 who fail to buckle up their children.

Fifty-six motorists were fined Dh400 for using mobile phone while driving and nine were fined for distracted driving. The penalty for both offences is Dh800 fine and 4 traffic points.

Dubai Police also fined four motorists Dh1,500 each for using window tints that are beyond the raised limit.
