A House panel has unanimously greenlighted a bill that seeks to streamline all government-initiated identification systems into one Filipino ID system.
Laguna Representative Sol Aragones, chairperson of the House Committee on Population and Family Relations, said the Filipino ID card will be imprinted with photograph, name, birth date, gender, fingerprint, and assigned reference number.
The bill aims to establish an integrated national ID system that can be used in public and private transaction, including applications for passport, driver’s license, as well as obtaining court and police clearances.
The bill awaits approval by the House Appropriations Committee before being brought to the plenary for a second reading.
If implemented, Filipinos here and abroad will be required register personal information with the Philippine Statistics Authority through the Local Civil Registry Office database.
“So pagka-klinick ‘yun, makikita na nila ‘yung lahat ng impormasyon na nando’n naman sa database [So when you click, all your information will be found in the database]”, Rappler quoted Aragones as saying.
The initial issuance of the Filipino ID card will be free.
