DOT to travelers: Check tour package if it’s real

With summer already upon us, a lot of people are already wondering of possible getaway trips as early as now.

But before you get immersed in the planning, the Department of Tourism (DOT) is warning all vacationers for getting scammed by fraudulent tourist agencies.

The internet is littered with cheap tours and promo packages that are very easy to get sucked in their promise of an affordable yet incredible summer escape for you, your family and your friends, said DOT officials. While some of these deals are very tempting to try, DOT reminded people to be mindful of booking and paying vacation transactions especially online.

Undersecretary for Tourism Regulation, Coordination and Resource Generation (TRCRG) Alma Rita Jimenez advised the public to always check if a tour package is real before making any type of payment.

“There’s no substitute to your own due diligence because pera mo ‘yun, dapat lang talagang pag-ingatan mo bago mo ipamigay. Hard-earned money, so dapat ang verification mo [ng travel agent ay] tama,” GMA News quoted Jimenez as saying.
