Miss Universe invites Harvey to visit Philippines

MANILA: American comedian, television host, radio personality, actor, and author Steve Harvey has an invite from none other than Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, his world famous goofup at the pageant notwithstanding. She has suggested Harvey could take a holiday if he’s up for it.

“I actually want him to visit the Philippines. I might actually take him around myself,” Manila Bulletin quoted Wurtzbach as saying during an appearance on an NY radio show recently.

“I’m sure the Filipinos would welcome him,” she reportedly said.

Harvey was heavily criticized following a mix-up during the pageant’s coronation night where he announced Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutiérrez winner.

He corrected himself shortly and announced Wurtzbach the rightful winner amid boos and catcalls, the report said.

The 26-year-old beauty queen proudly shared that travellers have their pick of gorgeous places like Palawan and Boracay, among other destinations, to visit.

“There’s 7,107 islands there (in the Philippines). You will never run out of places to go,” she reportedly said.

Wurtzbach also shared Boracay has “white powdery sand” that’s “very nice.”

“Almost everybody can speak English. It’s easy to go around,” she added, noting the Filipinos’ hospitality makes everyone feel welcome.

When one of the co-hosts mentioned dried mango treats as her favorite, the beauty queen proudly chimed in, “We have the sweetest mangoes in the world,” and claimed, “It’s actually been proven because they did some tests…”

In the same interview, Wurtzbach shared the three ‘Bs’ that Pinoys take seriously: Basketball, boxing, and, of course, beauty pageants, the report said.

She explained these as direct results of American colonization.

“We really have such big American culture in the Philippines. It is so Americanized there, if you’ll go there. We love America, we are pro-American really,” she reportedly said.

She then explained why Pinoys are such big beauty pageant aficionados, saying, “It’s been 42 years since Philippines won in the Miss Universe…you can imagine the anticipation building up.”

Pia also talked about the first time she met boxer Manny Pacquiao, Manila Times reported.
