Inflation, salary remain key concerns for Filipinos

MANILA: Nearly half of the total Filipino population in the Philippines remains concerned about rising inflation and higher work pay, a latest Pulse Asia survey results has pointed out.

In the nationwide survey conducted last December 4 to 11 among 1,800 respondents, it found that Filipinos’ most urgent national concerns are mostly economic in nature, namely controlling inflation (45 percent) and increasing worker’s salary (42 percent), reported Manila Bulletin.

About 38 percent of Filipinos are most concerned about addressing poverty, while 34 percent are for both creation of more jobs, and fighting corruption in the government, the report said.

Meanwhile, criminality is an issue identified as urgent by 25 percent of Filipinos (25 percent), it added.

Only less than a quarter of the population consider peace (19 percent) and rule of law (16 percent) as the most urgent concerns, said the news portal.

Filipinos are least concerned rapid population growth (7 percent), welfare of overseas Filipino workers (7 percent), territorial integrity (4 percent), charter change (3 percent), and terrorism (3 percent) as issues requiring the immediate attention of the Aquino administration, it said.

The only national issue cited as urgent in any geographic area and socio-economic group is inflation which is identified as an urgent national concern by 54 percent of Mindanao residents, reported Manila Bulletin.
