‘Lola Iska’ from Negros Occidental celebrates 120th birthday

She was already alive when the Philippines declared independence from Spain, Emilio Aguinaldo became president, and two world wars occurred. Now, she just celebrated her 120th birthday.

Francisca Susano, who is fondly called “Lola Isca” celebrated her 120th birthday on September 11 at her home in Negros Occidental. She claimed that she was born in 1897.

Despite her old age, Susano can still dance and play the harmonica. Her memory is said to be sharp and her eyes and ears are still functioning well.

Susano credits her vegetarian lifestyle as the secret to her long, healthy life.

She had 14 children with her late husband Pabian who died a long time ago at the age of 89.

Currently, 117-year-old Nabi Tajima of Japan is officially the world’s oldest living person after the previous holder, Violet Mosse-Brown of Jamaica, died last Friday. Mosse-Brown is just 145 days older than Tajima.

French woman Jeanne Calment (1857-1997), who lived for 122 years and 164 days, was the oldest verified person on record.
