How to disable Facebook Messenger’s seen feature

When the “seen” feature was introduced on Facebook messenger, users had to deal with the pressure to reply right away once a message was read.

It’s also in this generation that social network terms, such as  “seenzone”, have been coined. This happens when someone message you, usually on Facebook, and you have seen the message but didn’t not reply.

Luckily, to free you from unsolicited messages or pieces pieces advise, there are some tricks that can help you unseen Facebook messages.

Beginner Level: Read messages through notifications

When your phone is locked and you receive a message, you can read it as notifications. Do not open the message as you’ll be transferred to the Messenger app and the message will register as seen. The downside of this is that you won’t be able to read long messages as the notification is limited to a number of characters depending on your phone.

Intermediate Level: Switch to airplane mode

Another way to stealthily read messages is by turning on your phone’s airplane mode. Once it’s on, open the Messenger app and read your messages. Afterwards, completely log out of the Messenger app before switching the airplane mode off.

Expert Level: Use a Google Chrome extension or the Unread app

A Chrome extension called “Unseen” removes the line of code that marks your posts with read receipts. The extension blocks the “seen” notification, and shows only the “delivered” receipts. Simply install the extension

Chances are you also use Facebook on your phone so the Unseen app may come in handy. There’s a fix now to spare you from the awkward questioning as to why you didn’t reply.
