Dubai Aquarium: A window to the living ocean

Given the chance, everyone would want to get a glimpse of the underwater world and encounter species that we only see in textbooks and documentaries.

The problem is not everyone has enough gears to make it possible.

Fortunately, for Dubai locals and expatriates, they don’t need gears to be amazed by life under the ocean. They just need to bring themselves, their family and friends for a great aquatic amusement at the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.

This family-oriented destination in the UAE was recently hailed by Arabian Falcon Holidays as one of the top five favorite attractions in the region.

Dubai Aquarium features a 10-million liter aquarium, one of the largest suspended aquarium in the world that houses over 140 species of aquatic animals, including 300 sharks and rays.

It has another 48-meter long aquarium, where visitors can watch divers feed the sharks and rays.

The second level of the aquarium tank leads to the Underwater Zoo, which showcases Rainforest, Rocky Shore and Living Ocean.

The marine haven can be enjoyed for as low as Dh100. But if the adventure is not enough, visitors can opt a close encounter with sharks for another Dh600 fee.

Sounds expensive, but it will be worth it, especially if it means you could cross shark feeding off your bucket list.

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo also offers a virtual reality experience to visitors that make the behavior of endangered species understandable.

“The idea behind the VR Zoo is to get people face-to-face with some endangered species on the planet,” The National quoted Paul Hamilton, general manager and curator of the aquarium, as saying. “By using technology as well as zoos and aquariums to bring people into contact with these animals, we can raise awareness of them.”
