FILIPINOS SPEAK UP: What they love most about Global Village

It may be recalled that Filipinos were ranked third as the happiest people in the world based on the US-based firm Gallup International survey released early this year. Filipinos are always up for a day of fun-filled and thrill-seeking adventures despite life adversities, particularly the expats abroad, and especially if it is free.

Thus, The Filipino Times (TFT) is making it possible for the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to experience Dubai’s leading family entertainment and cultural attraction – the Global Village – for free!

Global Village, located at Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, is one of the most popular family destinations in Dubai for it offers rides for children and adults at the Carnaval Fair; a fireworks display; cultural and monster shows; live concerts; and the most astonishing of all, a cultural experience of other countries represented in its pavilions.

Hence, TFT is giving away opportunities to the OFWs to experience the world at the Global Village the easiest way possible. On TFT’s Facebook page, expats simply need to answer one question, tag five (5) of their friends in the comment section, and share the post on their timeline. Winners will be given 5 Global Village Entrance Tickets and a commemorative Gold coin.

Here are a few entries of the joiners on what do they like most about Global Village.

A banker in Abu Dhabi refers the Global Village as “a gateway to the world as it gives you the experience to somehow feel other countries’ customs and traditions. It provides you the feeling of travelling the world in just one place.”

A store keeper in Sharjah said he had visited the place back in December 2011, but still he wanted to go back to the Global Village.

“Dec 29,2011 yan yun first na punta ko sa Global Village. Maganda ‘yung place dahil lahat ng kilalang lugar sa ibang bansa kasama ang Pilipinas ay makikita sa loob. Kahit matagal na kami dito sa UAE, ‘yun pa lang ‘yung una naming punta. Gusto ko ulit mamasyal at makita ‘yung mga landmark ng ibang bansa.”

Others explained that “They like the set-up in the Global Village that features different countries, culture, and traditions.”

“Global Village offers a glimpse and feel the different places around the world with their cultures in one place, which can make one appreciate the differences and how diverse the world is.”

“Plain and simple: it is the Gateway to the world. Travelling the world in one place, and having a taste and glimpse of other countries’ customs and traditions.”

“I like the excitement, fun, and cuisine of every participating country. [I am] looking forward to my visit as always.”

It is evident that Filipinos, despite how tight their schedules are, still find the time to unwind and explore places for fun and entertainment particularly if it is for free.

Meanwhile, the Global Village ticket costs Dh15 (approx. P207) while the family pack costs Dh99 (approx. P1,366) inclusive of four entry tickets, 1 valet parking ticket, 1 Carnival Funfair card worth Dh75 (P1,035), and 2 mini train tickets.

On Thursdays and Fridays, the fireworks display is at 9:00 pm (Dubai Time); while the live concerts happen every Friday at 9:00 pm (Dubai Time) as well.
