Two music stars shined brighter than ever as the Asia’s Songbird and Pop Star Princess performed a medley of OPM hits Sunday night, October 22.
Regine Velasquez and Sarah Geronimo belted out hits like “Sana Maulit Muli” and “Ikaw” during the second night of the former’s sold-out R30 concert held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Geronimo thanked the Songbird, who is celebrating her 30th year in the industry, for being an inspiration to all aspiring Filipino singers.
“Ms. Reg, gusto ko lang po sabihin na sobra po kaming blessed to have you in the industry. Ako po, I will forever be grateful for you. Kung hindi po dumating, ipinanganak ang isang Ms. Regine Velasquez, hindi po kami, mga aspiring singers, magkakaroon ng lakas ng loob na isipin manlang na matutupad namin kung ano man ang gusto namin marating. Mahal na mahal po namin kayo,” Geronimo said.
The duo finished with a hair-raising rendition of “Dadalhin” and Martin Nievera’s “Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin”, receiving thunderous applause and a standing ovation from the audience.
Geronimo and Velasquez last graced the concert stage together in 2013, during the former’s 10th anniversary concert , “Perfect 10”.
Geronimo was named the grand champion on the television singing contest “Star for A Night”, hosted by Velasquez, which paved the way for her successful singing career.
Celebrity Sightings
Local celebrities flocked to the SM Mall of Asia Arena to witness the one-of-a-kind performance of the Songbird.
In an Instagram video, Judy Ann Santos can be seen lip-syncing to Velasquez’s rendition of Michael Johnson’s “Bluer than Blue”.
“Maraming mahuhusay, pero nag-iisa ka,” she captioned the video.
Singers Jed Madela and Jaya were also in attendance during Velasquez’s two-night concert.
Madela captioned the photo, “You have inspired so many people including myself and for that we are truly thankful.”
