LJ Moreno-Alapag turns her craving into booming business

What started out as a craving for sweet, bite-sized delights turned into a thriving business for television host and actress LJ Moreno-Alapag.

In an article published on the website www.entrepreneur.ph, LJ shared that she was busy planning her wedding to PBA player Jimmy Alapag in 2010 when she stumbled upon lollicakes, doughnut-hole sized cakes on lollipop sticks coated in chocolate.

When the couple returned to Manila after the wedding, LJ looked for lollicakes at every bakeshop and online store. Much to her dismay, she couldn’t find the product, prompting her to bake her own.

After a series of trial-and-errors, perfecting the recipes in her home kitchen, she finally decided to put up the business, thus, The Lollicake Factory was born.

With just P10,000 of capital, she opened The Lollicake Factory in 2011, offering a variety of sweet treats from her signature lollicakes to customized cakes and cupcakes.

“I was really doing everything – baking, answering e-mails and phone calls, sometimes even delivery,” Entrepreneur Philippines quoted the actress-turned-entrepreneur as saying.

After six years in the business, what started as a one-woman business turned into a number of stores and franchises across Metro Manila.

As a former preschool teacher, LJ knows a thing or two about designing and developing cake flavors that kids and kids at heart will love.

Aside from being an entrepreneur, she says being a doting wife and mother to her two kids always come first.

“It can be tempting to just focus all your time on the business because that’s where the money comes from. But it shouldn’t be all about the money,” she added.

Some of her loyal customers include her husband’s PBA teammates and her close friends in show business including recently wed comedian Ruffa Mae Quinto.
