‘Gangnam Style’ dethroned as Youtube’s most watched video

Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s heartwarming tribute to Fast and the Furious actor Paul Walker just nabbed the top spot as Youtube’s most watched video, the video sharing website announced on Tuesday.

The Furious 7 soundtrack ‘See You Again’ hit 2.901 billion views on Youtube, surpassing the previous title holder ‘Gangnam Style’ with only 2.896 billion views at the time of writing. Korean pop star Psy’s music video was the first to reach one billion views on Youtube.

‘See You Again’ was featured in the seventh installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise as a tribute to the movie’s lead star, Paul Walker, who was killed in a car crash in 2013.
Rapper Wiz Khalifa said in a statement, “I’m super excited and grateful to everyone who supported the song and video on YouTube, and happy to inspire and impact so many lives.”
Charlie Puth, who was featured in the song, recalled his humble beginnings as a singer, “I remember when I signed up for YouTube in 2007 and had hopes of uploading a video and it reaching 10,000 views. Now a decade later, it feels incredible to be a part of the most-viewed video on YouTube,” Puth said in a statement on Twitter.

‘See You Again’ has averaged more than 3 million views per day this year, Youtube records show.
