Four vie for Miss Kauai Filipina crown

Kauai: Four young women, three graduates of Kauai High School and one from Waimea High School in Hawaii, will be vying for the Miss Kauai Filipina crown.
Alyssa Pigao recently received her diploma from Waimea High School, and Taralyn Manzano, Sheena Juliano and Kimberly Yago were featured during the Kauai High School commencement exercises, Charlmaine Bulosan of the Kauai Filipino Community Council, the pageant’s host was quoted as saying by The Garden Island.

The 2016 Miss Kauai Filipina scholarship pageant will be held on July 2 at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, the report said.
Tickets are available through any of the contestants, or by visiting the pageant’s website at www.misskauaifilipina.com.

Bulosan reportedly said the four contestants will be making a public appearance during the Kamehameha Day parade June 11 where they will be joined by the 2015 Miss Kauai Filipina, Marielle Yano.
“This is also a first for the girls,” Bulosan added. “This is the first time we were able to secure vehicles to participate in the Kamehameha Day parade.”

When the 2016 Miss Kauai Filipina is crowned, the queen will receive a cash scholarship to help with her post-high school education, and will also become eligible to advance to the Miss Hawaii Filipina pageant, where the queens of each island come together to vie for the state crown, the report said.
Topaz Fernandez, the pageant’s contestant coordinator, was selected a state queen in 2011.
Following 56 years of success, the Miss Kauai Filipina Scholarship Pageant has presented more than $100,000 in scholarships to young Filipino women in Kauai, The Garden Island reported.
